About the release:

Over the years Electric Deluxe has become a beacon for established names to test out new projects, and it’s with great pleasure we welcome another unknown into the fold. Arad is the freshfaced solo guise of Dara Smith, best known as one half of Lakker. Together with partner Ian McDonell, the pair have been making music for over a decade, in recent years honing their insidious and deftly idiosyncratic take on techno for labels like Blueprint, Stroboscopic Artefacts and R&S. But whilst McDonell has found the time to prune his own solo career as Eomac, Smith has been fully occupied with Lakker and working as a motion graphics designer. Until now, that is.

‘Haon EP’ is Smith’s debut release as Arad. Bolstered by years of experimentation and experience, and written with the same capricious approach to style that’s made Lakker’s rise such a joy to chart, ‘Haon EP’ is a veritable feast of intriguing composition and influences. Opening with the aptly titled roller “Basswave” and screwed-up sounds of “Fourty Four” before flipping over to
the staccato march of “Gedup awa dat” and warped Warpness of closer “NCS”, ‘Haon EP’ is one for the headphones as much for the dancefloor, that continues to reward with every listen. Digital bonus tracks “Grand Job” and “Tapper” then show Smith take another turn entirely, proving Arad to be a project definitely worth keeping tabs on.

Stroboscopic Artefacts celebra su quinto aniversario. Con solo mencionar esto, nos vienen a la mente las ediciones especiales de coleccionista, el obsequio amable con el que los sellos se miran el ombligo, ensalzando a sus propios artistas en una gran gala de promoción. Pero el sello de Lucy no va de ese palo. No hace concesiones de ninguna clase a la autocomplacencia servicial. Pese a tratarse únicamente del primer capítulo de la entrega, Sa5year es sorprendentemente sesgado y austero. Del repertorio de techno prodigioso que disponible es sus vitrinas, Stroboscopic Artefacts nos deleita con un concentrado proteínico de solo 4 temas.

Las caras de este tetraedro reflejan lo más representativo de la casa: el techno gélido de los irlandeses Lakker, que se solidifica nervio arriba en pequeños cristales crujientes; la pista de baile industrial del londinense Perc, de músculos agarrotados en convulsiones espasmódicas; la misteriosa profundidad del argentino Pfirter y la gradiente experimental de Rrose, que evoluciona más allá de lo reconocible. Bravo por el cumpleañero, un sello que no se recrea en el pasado cuando se trata de adelantarse al futuro.

STROBOSCOPIC ARTEFACTS CELEBRA SUS 5 AÑOS CON UNA SERIE DE LANZAMIENTOS MUY ESPECIALES

Stroboscopic Artefacts celebra 5 años en la escena con una serie de lanzamientos especiales, seleccionado artistas destacados que han conformado la identidad del sello. Un aniversario que revisará sus colaboraciones más significativas.

«Chapter One» se publicará el próximo 8 de septiembre y está enfocado a la oscura y grasienta pista de baile marca de la casa. Incluye tracks de Rrose, Perc, Pfirter and Lakker y ofrece una clara visión de lo que el sello de Lucy ha estado explorando desde su creación.

Los siguientes capítulos incluirán a Donato Dozzy, Kangding Ray, Xhin, Chevel, Tommy Four Seven y Luke Slater’s L.B. Dub Corp. Estaremos bien atentos.
